We celebrate our 30th customisation project with this beautiful BMW R100RT. Here at Bolt Motor Company, we’re extremely proud of the work we’ve done so far, and we’re especially happy with #BOLT30’s result.
We had a great rapport with this fantastic BMW R100RT’s owner, which made our job a lot easier. Our goal was to build a unique Boxer Classic from a very common base bike, so we had quite a tough task ahead of us. But let’s take it step by step.
First, we’d like to point out that we rebuilt the entire rear end. The work on the swingarm was by far the hardest for our team of mechanics, as they had to combine the swingarm, shaft and a group of a modern BMW R1200 to build a central mono shock absorber. Believe us when we tell you that fitting in a modern shaft into the transmission of a classic motorbike is no easy feat. This is probably why there aren’t many BMW Boxer Classics with a central mono-shock absorber.
As for the suspension, we went for the fiercest look, so we chose a 58 mm MV Agusta front suspension with an MV Agusta Brutale top triple tree and an MV Agusta F4 lower yoke.
The brake discs are oversized both in the front and in the rear, and we used tailor-made Goodridge brake lines. It’s got BMW R1200GS rear wheels on both axes with notable spokes and large tyres (130 in the front and 160 in the rear). The state-of-the-art LED headlight was given an aluminum bracket, which creates harmony with the motorbike’s lines.
Another important feature of this BMW R100RT’s customisation was the electrical system, as we used the same charging system, wiring, and terminals as the ones used by F2 racing teams – the prelude to Formula 1. Besides, we mounted an electronic ignition system with a cutting edge electronic control unit and regulator/rectifier.
Mechanically, we’ve dismounted the engine to perform a complete rebuild, which allows #BOLT30’s owner to enjoy a completely new and upgraded machine. Let’s not forget the exhaust system, where even the muffler was built from a single piece without the need for any welding.
The paint on this BMW R100RT was also a work of art. We went for a crystal effect, which we got by using oven-dried heat and scratch resistant paint and lacquer. The result is simply spectacular.
We put our blood and sweat into this project, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. First, we’d like to thank its owner for trusting us. We’ve worked hand in hand from the beginning, by selecting together the ideal base engine. Our client knew what he wanted, but he wasn’t sure of where or how to start. At Bolt Motor Company, Café Racer specialists, we help our customers find the perfect base bike to ensure that the end result will fulfill their expectations.
